About Us

Friends of Cascade Playground was organized in 2015 by the Seattle Parks and Recreation under the name Cascade Playground Activation Committee. Our organization is dedicated to bringing citizens and stakeholders together to activate Cascade Playground through the Urban Parks Activation Partnership grant. We are supported by the YMCA, Seattle Parks Department, Cascade Neighborhood Council, South Lake Union Chamber and Community Council, neighbors, small business owners, non-profits, and developers to achieve our goals. Together we champion dynamic and innovative activities, programs, and events to activate the park through a range of methods:

  • Provide inclusive facilities, events, programming, and meetings

  • Host a range of events and daily fun for the whole neighborhood

  • Track and communicate information about park activation, public space changes, and future opportunities

  • Connect with the people who live, work, and visit the area to cultivate the best park for everyone

 Our activation model focuses on providing park staff, daily activities and equipment in the summer, as well as special events for the whole neighborhood throughout the year. We focus on community outreach in order to get to know our neighbors and fundraise to support park events and operations with the goal of ensuring Cascade Playground is an inclusive, safe, and fun place for everyone who lives, works, or visits South Lake Union.
